Narendra Modi Labelled ‘Sexist’ for Comment

    Narendra Modi’s Huge Mistake

Narendra Modi, has charmed Western leaders and is very popular across the Indian electorate but he may have just made a collosal mistake when discussing the subject of terrorism with a Bangladeshi counterpart.

Narendra Modi, was in fact praising Sheikh Hasina’s tough stance against extremism. However, the ending “despite being a woman” may prove particularly damning. Whilst there was no reaction from Miss Hasina, Twitter has gone mad with anti-Narendra Modi comments and pictures supporting female achievements.

    Narendra Modi Comment: Context

Narendra Modi, was on a two day visit to neighbouring Bangladesh and was focussing his attention on giving speeches at Dhaka university. Pakistan, India and Bangladesh have all suffered heavily in the 21st century from terrorist activities and many observers saw this as a uniting factor.

Narendra Modi declared “the world has still not found a solution on how to tackle terrorism. Even the UN is not in a position to provide guidance,” said Modi. “I am happy that the prime minister of Bangladesh, despite being a woman, is openly saying that she has zero tolerance for terrorism. I would like to congratulate Sheikh Hasina for her courage to deal with terrorism with zero tolerance.”

Bangladesh has made huge strides in the fight against religious and politically motivated violence. The current democratic system has been in place since 1990 and the nation also has witnessed a civil society movement since that date.

As for Narendra Modi, it is difficult to imagine his drive to transform India’s infrastructure, trade and promotion for the ‘Make in India‘ initiative will all be forgotten. Without doubt, Narendra Modi has been a positive leader for India’s image on the global stage. Its precisely this image that India’s PM must hope has not been tarnished by yesterday’s comments.
